Kosher bakery for hamentaschen in Midtown

janethelen Mar 10, 2008 10:29 AM

I am looking for suggestions to buy hamentaschen in Midtown. My Most Favorite Dessert Company charges $20/pound for their products (pretty expensive). Does anyone know of another Midtown Manhattan kosher bakery/restaurant where I can buy hamentaschen by the pound? Thanks in advance.

j2 on Broadway has excellent baking but they are dairy. I know Fiarway up town has Reismanns which are pretty good and Supersol on the Upper West side has avery good asortment.

Try J2 Pizza on Broadway near 37th. There's a small bakery counter in the front that's not excellent but not bad. I've bought entire cakes from them but they also have cookies. I haven't been in recently but I assume they have hamentashen this time of year.

Keep in mind, most of their pastries are dairy, or at least, they used to be. ask before you buy.

what about a short detour to the Lower East Side?you have moish's on Grand and East Broadway or Beigel's hamantashen is sold at East Broadway bakery on Grand. The price should be at least 10-15 dollars cheaper than My Favorite Dessert for your detour and train fare. East Broadway on Grand is only 2 blocks from the Delancey St stop on the F train. You can transfer to the bus if it comes quickly. The owner is a nice lady. She can use the business.

Moishe's is also located on Second Ave between 6th and 7th Streets.

There was once an association between the two moishe's bakeries. There no longer is. I don't know if the one on 2nd ave is kosher.

The Moishe's on 2nd Ave and 6th (?) street is certified by Rabbi Marmorstein according to OZ's kosher list (www.ozny.org).
