Melisse for special occasion - the right choice?

I'm taking my wife out in early April to celebrate her birthday and our first real night out since the birth of our daughter, and have chosen a first trip to Melisse over a second trip to Providence. The right choice? Is there a better choice? What are the "must-haves" at Melisse? Any and all thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

You're absolutely making the right choice. My girlfriend and I went to Melisse last fall and had the vegetarian tasting menu... everything was superb, including the service. We'd had the same thing at Providence a month or so before and I think Melisse beat it hands down (though Providence was great, no question, and being vegetarians we're obviously not judging the places based on the full spectrum of food).

Make sure you get the cheese tray if it's not included in your meal. It is something to marvel.

Melisse is a wonderful restaurant. I've been several times and never been disappointed. It is very pricey, but for a special occasion hopefully that will be ok (of course, so is Providence). I don't have any specific recommendations for food, but if it's not out of your price range, you might consider one of the tasting menus...it's sure to be special.

I agree. I've done the carte blanche tasting menu a few times and it's been spectacular.
