Place to eat near Dulles??

newtova Mar 9, 2008 06:41 PM

I have to pick someone up at Dulles next Friday, and was wondering about a good place to eat in the general vicinity while we wait for traffic to cool. Any suggestions? I'm open to all types of food...

Mimi's Cafe is straight down 28 toward Ashburn, in front of the Dulles Town Center mall. Great Bloody Mary's excellent diverse menu a real N'awlins feel in the decor and menu, but with plenty of Amercian options for the less bold.

In the other direction- Eggspectations in Chantilly- straight down 28 toward Chantilly, off of Westfields, I believe. Amazing breakfast items available all day- their breakfast poatoes are full of herbs and simply goooood. huge desserts, diverse salads and sandwiches. both great reliable places within 10-15 minutes of the airport.

Sort of depends on where you're heading afterwards. So far most of the recs are to the south and north of the airport. If you're heading back East toward DC then you won't encounter bad traffic until near the main toll plaza near Tyson's, in which case anything Herndon/Reston suits best as you're not going out of your way.

If that's the case, Jimmy's in Herndon has their Friday fish fry. You've got places like Rio in Town Center. Sweet Basil Cafe, Ice House Cafe, Euro Bistro are all good options as well (Sweet Basil lacks atmosphere, though).

It really all depends what you're looking for. However...as a safe and delicious bet, I would think about two places: (1) Sweetwater Tavern in Sterling, which is about 3 to 4 miles away. Lastly, I would think about (2) Clydes, located in Reston, at Reston Town Center. Great food and decent service at a great price. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

if you are heading out the access road you won't have to wait for traffic as there is separate access directly to dulles.

but if you want to find a place nearby and not at the airport, there are plenty of options.

sweetwater tavern in sterling is about 4 miles and a fave for sit-down meal with fun atmpsphere and good beers.

in herndon, masala wok is a good newcomer

There's a Sweetwater south of Tyson's - in Merrifield. Similar to my other post, if you're heading to DC (or East anyway) from the airport, then that one would be more on the way. You will encounter more traffic, however, but only after the main toll plaza (from there, get on 495 south, go to the Rt 50/Gallows Rd exit, go North on Gallows and it'll be there on the left very quickly).
