Hi- I'm not from Pittsburgh but I will be hosting a rehearsal dinner there in the Fall. We will all be at the Renaissance Marriot in Downtown and would like to get a few ideas of area restaurants that are 1) good, 2) can handle a large group with ease 3) not cheap but reasonably priced.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Check out Six Penn Kitchen, within walking distance of your hotel: http://www.sixpennkitchen.com

I second Six Penn. We had a large rehearsal dinner there, around 80 people, and they rented us the whole second floor. They came up with an upscale picnic dinner theme with lobster corn dogs, bbq crabcake sandwiches, cotton candy sundaes etc. They also dedicated the second floor bar to our party. The service was excellent, the food was a lot of fun and the space worked out really well.

It is alos very close to your hotel.

I was married last year and we had our rehearsal dinner at the Urban Mountain Gathering Place in Mt. Washington. They don't do the food, but you can have any caterer you like come in at no charge. The view is unbeatable. the staff is incredibly professional and willing to go above the call of duty, and best of all, the rental fee goes to benefit programs for at-risk kids in Mt. Wash and Duquesne Heights.

      The website is http://www.umgp.com/

We had our dinner catered by Big Burrito, but the UMGP has a list of caterers they work with often which might also be helpful.

Penn Brewery has a nice downstairs room and the beer is good and German cookin'. You'd have to drive there, but it's not far. In the beer hall tradition, it's not stuffy.

I got married at the William Penn a few years ago and we rented out the italian restaurant Asiago for our rehearsal dinner. It was very nice and reasonably priced. We were able to walk there from the WP but it might be a stretch from the marriott.

If you are into contemp. art, The Mattress Factory rents out the museum for special events. www.mattress.org. I have been to many events there and had a wonderful time!!!! Very unique space. One of my favorites in the entire country. Too avante garde for some tastes though.
