If you look back through previous responses to this kind of question you'll find a lot of recommendations for dim sum (Pink Pearl of Sun Sui Wah - both have cart service), it's a fun way to spend the lunch/brunch and entertaining for kids and parents (if y'all like Asian food). On Granvile Island I like the food stalls for lunch over the restaurants, kind of fun after visits to the Model Train/Ship Museum. From near the Waterfront you can take the seabus to Lonsdale Quay good views of harbour action but I'm not sure about the food (don't do it often enough). It is run by the very talented Mary McIntyre (former pastry chef at Lumiere). It's not that close to GI though. On GI - Go Fish for Fish and Chips...all kids like Fish and Chips, right?
