anyone know about Madras Dosa Hut?

  • 6

I drove by my usual dosa place in Brampton on Friday (it's on highway 10 between Sandalwood and Mayfield) and saw a "closed" sign taped to the outside of the door.

does anyone know what's going on? they weren't the best dosas I've ever had in my life, but they were reliably good, fast, consistant and inexpensive...and there were lots to choose from.

I'm really sorry if they've closed up for good!

  1. I don't know about that one, but the http://www.saravanaabhavan.ca/ has outlets over the GTA (and the world...i was astounded to find one in Madras, and another in KL after eating at the one in mississauga for years!

The buffet sucks, but if you order a la carte, it's fantastic. Very authentic.

Actually, we had the buffet at the Richmond Hill outlet and it was good - they were very assiduous in service too, bringing piping hot dosas from the kitchen, when I requested them - but then we went early before the families rush...

I've eaten at the Delhi outlet many times - they are always completely full all through the day there - and the Toronto ones are almost as good - almost, since there are more choices in India, and the sweets just cannot taste the same given the difference in ingredients here...

i know i can't find good mysore pak here at all. Dammit. got hooked on the stuff in Trivanderum. The buffet was just old and boring when i was there, but i got there late. i tend to hate buffets anyhow, and i like masala dosas which the buffet didn't have, they also didn't have paper dosas, just soggy ones. bleh. Don't get me wrong, i love it there, but forgo the buffet.

    2. There is a Madras Dosa Hut in the plaza at Rathburn/Torbram in Mississauga..maybe they moved here??
Toronto Star did an article on dosa's recently and highlighted Dosa King (or something like that) which is on Rathburn west of Mavis. Have a long list of dosa options..

I think that was the original location... perhaps they closed the satellite

there's a good little place at the Indian mall at the corner of Gore Road and highway 7 - run by a lovely woman who sells Indian bangles and Chinese buddha statues from the restaurant... (I love Toronto). there's never anyone in the place, though, so I'm afraid it might not last, even though it is good.

Do you know if their website is up to date? It says there's a dosa special until the end of March where regularly priced dosas can be had for $5.00. The site also shows the Brampton location as "now open", but based on the posts, it sounds like that location is closed.
