Need lunch recommendation near Downington

  • j

We have to go to the V.A. Hospital in Downingtown, and would like to do lunch beforehand. We're coming from the Trooper area, but would like to find a place in Exton or Downingtown. Any suggestions?

  1. In Exton, I like the Drafting Room on Rt. 100, a couple of miles north of Rt. 30. Also, if you like Asian-fusion, the Green Papaya on Rt. 30 just east of Rt. 100 is good.

    1. Classic Diner is a great place, just east of Exton on Rt. 30. Omelets, sandwiches (lobster BLT), and unbelievable chicken quesedillas. Also, I like Riverstone Cafe in Exton.

      1. Try Fiorvanti on Business Rt. 30, great italian with a twist. The chef trained under Roy Yamagucci (James Beard Winner) in Hawaii. It's byob and an open kitchen, it can get a little noisy, but totally worth it.

All good recs above, if you like Greek, try The Olive Tree Mediterranean Grill on Rt 113 in Downingtown.

I hadn't heard about this restaurant until I saw your post. I get up that way often and after looking at their website, I'm eager to try it. What dishes do you recommend?

I love their greek salads with fish and their olive tapenade chicken. My husband loves their gyros.

I also love the Olive Tree and would highly recommend it as a great place to grab lunch. Their lunch menu is very affordable too. My husband always gets the greek gyro. I get the grilled vegetable sandwich. As our side, we both always go with the greek salad. We split a bowl of the chicken avagalemono (spelling?) soup usually. Sometimes we get dessert - the Baklava. All items we order are great!! If you go - you'll have to post and let us know what you think.

Since reading this post, I've been to the Olive Tree twice for dinner. I've had the gyro and the souvlaki and I've been very happy with both. The portions are very generous, and the accompanying Greek salad is very good. My husband and I shared the grilled calamari appetizer which was tasty and very tender. I'll definitely return.

CindyJ - I'm so glad you were encouraged to check out the Olive Tree and liked it! I've yet to try their souvlaki so I'll have to test that out now that you enjoyed it. You're right about the grilled calamari appetizer - Its Excellent as well! I've only had it once because we usually go for lunch - and this is an appetizer they only offer at dinner.

            2. The Olive Tree is an excellent choice for lunch and dinner. I never get tired of going there because the menu has so many different things to try. I find the prices are very affordable and they give generous portions. I love the assorted handmade appetizers, souvlaki, and gyros. I also like to top it off with some baklava ice cream...
