Best Mexican in SF/Peninsula
Hi everyone! I have just relocated from So Cal and desperately in need of some recommendations for a few good Mexican restaurants. I work in Portrero Hill and live in the Peninsula, so if anyone out there can recommend a few good places that can hold a candle to the yummy Mexican places I left in So. Cal, it would be very much appreciated! Taquerias, restaurants... whatever. If the guacamole is fresh, the salsa spicy and the rest of the food is tasty, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

Don Ramon's on 11th between Folsom and Howard.
Their chile colorado is housemade and the most complex, delicious I've ever had. Or their fajitas de lomo de puerco adobado (spicy pork fajitas) are equally outrageous. Also, when avacados are in season and good, theirs is the creamiest, best I've found. It is family-owned and has been for decades. The owners makes the food fresh every morning -- if you haven't wept over refried beans before, you will once you try theirs.
It's a well-kept secret because Don Ramon's doesn't advertise. But it boasts a huge, loyal clientele that includes many SF politicians (I've seen Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, Willie Brown, Bevan Dufty, Angela Alioto, Aaron Peskin, and many, many others there), judges, musicians (I've eaten at the bar next to Boz Scaggs), and other local "celebritites." They really cater to their local customers, many of whom have been eating there for years.

If you have a free weekend you try Middlefield Road in Redwood City.
Check out this post from a few years ago. There have been changes but you will fine a lot of choices.
