Color Tinto (Calgary)
Anyone been to Color Tinto? http://www.colortinto.com/menu_empana... they were at CFM yesterday with Gilchrist and were sampling some of their Empanadas. The one I had was I think made for Canadians... cheese and bell peppers. Tasty although not spicy like I would have expected...but maybe the samples were dumbed down? Any thoughts?

Maple, empanadas tend to vary from one South American country to another. I will say that I've never had one with cheese, or with a lot of heat, but the spicing can be intense sometimes. I have added hot sauce though. Google some recipes and that will tell you what to expect, and help you identify different country styles.

Hi maplesugar, just wanted to share some information. Empanadas are a pastry that mostly comes from south america. The only latin country that the food is spicy is Mexico, from Mexico down no other country has spiciness in their food, unless they choose too. So authentic Empanadas do not have spiciness, and if you ever eat in an authentic latin restaurant you will find that the food is not spicy. Just so you know. When you go to a restaurant that the owners and chefs are canadians you will expect confusion in authenticity, like adding spiciness to a so called "latin dish". Like I said only the mexican food has spiciness and not all mexican dishes are either.
