80's SD yogurt place? (help)

My family used to go to some yogurt place down near Sports Arena a million years ago. They remember it being on West Point Loma where there's now a Soup Plantation. I thought it was on Midway. Apparently it was the first place in town that had Tofutti way back when. None of us can remember the name. Anyone?

  1. Adam Gimbel?? From the famous rockband Rookie Card??? As I live and breathe.... :-)

    I can't help you out with the name of that place, but I can tell you where to find some good yogurt here in the present decade. Yogurt World on Convoy - just don't try to park in the parking lot. It's close to O'Brien's where you can try a gazillion micro-craft brews from Belgium, which is awfully cool as well.

      Did you miss this thread, Alice:

      Might be an alternative that allows for much easier parking.

    2. I looked on Google Earth and there's a place called The California Yogurt Company on Midway just south of the Sports Arena.

        Hey Alice! Nope. Must be some other Adam Gimbel. ;-)

        Funny you should mention Yogurt World. I touted it in the Best Of issue of City Beat. http://ww2.sdcitybeat.com/cms/story/d... It was just a few hundred feet from my old office. Still haven't been back since I wrote it. Wonder if they still have a sign that says "CONGRATULATIONS YOGURT WORLD" (?

        )

        California Yogurt Company isn't ringing any bells with me or my fam and they're pretty sure it's on West Point Loma. I doubt whatever it was is still around. Not too many yogurt places have lasted 20 years.

          Here's one I missed: Funnies Frozen Yogurt. It's on West Point Loma, near the Sports Arena and the Souplantation.

          Google for the win? :p

          I looked it up and it seems to get really bad reviews. Perhaps it's the same spot under a new name or with new management/ownership.

          1. re: Aengus

            It could be the same location but I wouldn't forget such a (begin sarcasm) genius name like FUnnies (end sarcasm). Pizza places seem to remain pizza places in the same location. Maybe the same goes for yogurt.

      2. It is Funnies Frozen Yogurt at 3960 Wl. Pt. Loma Blvd. Same owners since 1986. They always served Tofutti until the company stopped shipping it to SD. They have had some bad luck with a few employees in the last few years, but still serve the healthyist most natural products on the market. They have replaced Tofutti with another soy based product that has been successful. The decor is entertaining to families with children. Generous discounts for students.
