Went to Melisse for lunch last week with my wife. We started with a remarkably good Cucumber soup in a demi-tasse. The Mushroom soup was also very good. The Burata, Beet and Frisee salad had a big portion of very fresh, creamy Burata, a fist full of Frisee and 4 discs of beet the size and thickness of nickles. Needed more beet. I forget what fish was served (white) but it was perfectly cooked. It was served with a VERY powerful (vinegary)marinated confit of tomato and fresh herbs. I scraped it off and the fish itself was excellent. The meat was Braised Beef Shortrib. It was tender and the sauce was rich, flavorful and quite excellent. Dessert was Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was served rubbery and room temperature with a Chocolate Sauce and a Raspberry Sauce. The pudding didn't have any of the mashed dates that are usually added to keep this pudding moist and tender. I also prefer a Caramel Sauce as an accompaniment although if the pudding were better I could have been very happy with those sauces. The restaurant was nearly empty and the serving staff was quite accomodating and efficient. Chef Citrin was in the kitchen. I did enjoy the meal but it was far from the best meal that I have had in this town.
