Seafood shop/Eastside?

  • d

Hi! I am looking for the best fish store on the east side/ Silverlake/Glendale area. In particular for the Mussels. I usually buy them on Sundays at the Ivar Farmers Market, and they are great, but I need some for the rest of the week too! I have bought mussels and clams at Mayfair on Hyperion and have not been happy with them.
Any ideas?? Thanks a million!

I second the Fish King rec. Great place. But on Glendale AVE not Bl. North of 134. Block down from Whole Foods. Warning -- it's not cheap.

If you're looking bargains, you might want to try Thai Town of Chinatown. There are probably posts on this board with names of particular markets.

Or if you're not trying to impress company, there's the lazy man's option: frozen at Trader Joes. One of our own, Bob Brooks?, tipped me off to the frozen boxed mussels with butter etc. I was dubious but turned out to be deliciousand a real bargain. TJ's frozen clams, these not flavored and vac packed in plastic, also quite good. Avoid their fish, however. Beyond bad.

As for the seafood counter at Mayfair, it SUCKS. Expensive. Limited selection. Not fresh. And yet I keep going back. When will I learn?
