Ranch 99 has branches in Cupertino, Milpitas and San Jose. All the branches I have been to have lice crab and usually inexpensive. Getting them off the boats is usually cheaper.

Excellent and cheap don't always go together. Try Cook's in Menlo Park.

I'm not sure how cheap this is by your standard, but R99's prices this year have been $4.50-$5.50 a pound. Pillar Point, straight off the boats, was running $4.50 a pound. (There's very little coming straight off the boats right now. And don't expect that to change before the season here peters out.) Straight off the boats is not necessarily cheaper if you factor in the gas and time out to Pillar Point and back.

With the mention of the PCH I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that there was a driving tour involved.

Thanks for the suggestions. Am looking for a restaurant to eat it at as well. Yes, will be driving from silicon valley to san diego on PCH.

After that try Lobster in Santa Monica.
