Linguine with Clams in OC

Tapeworm Mar 7, 2008 01:14 PM

I just had the linguine with clams for lunch at Franco's Pasta Cucina in Irvine. Nice and garlicky with a little spice. $9 for it with salad, roll and soda. Any other places in OC that make a good version?

I like the linguine with clams at Roma d'Italia on El Camino in Tustin. Been eating it there for 30 years. Nice and consistent. Great homemade rolls, too. Caio.

Marco Polo in Newport has a couple dishes on their menu with clams.

Honestly, I can't remember which one I had, but I know it was quite good.

I've had it at Luigi's D'Italia in Anaheim (as a special) and at Carolina's (ditto) and both were very tasty.

Da Bianca Trattoria in Orange makes an excellent linguine with clams. The restaurant is located in the little shopping center at the intersection of Chapman and Newport Blvd. In fact, all of their pastas are excellent. It's really a little jewel...a friendly neighborhood trattoria where Bianca greets everyone every night.

Back in November, I tried various Fullerton restaurants in search of a great linguine w/clam sauce (along w/lasagna). I tried Mulberry Street, Roman Cucina, Lomeli's, Pane & Vino (Brea), and a couple others I can't recall now. The best of the bunch was Roman Cucina (but I asked for a creamy clam sauce); though Mulberry street had the best presentation.

But there was something lacking in all those dishes. None of them really wowed me.

So, if you're looking for great clam sauce, don't come up to Fullerton or Brea; and if you do, Roman Cucina might work.
