Feenie's no more

It was inevitable with Rob Feenie's "departure" from Lumiere/Feenie's. The current owner David Sidoo has laid off his staff and is closing the restaurant for renovations.

To be perfectly honest, I was never a fan of Feenie's food...so it is personally not a big loss for me. These days in Vancouver, there so many great restaurants that offer a far greater value than Lumiere ever did (with the same level of quality and service, IMO).

Still...I guess one could say that this is the end of an era.

    Letting him go was a dumb idea from a business point of view...now the "owner" will pay the price....Should have kept him around that way just on the "name" alone the place would have generated interest for a few years.....

      I don't think Sidoo really had a choice. The breakup got so much press that it would have hurt him to stay in business as a "Feenie". He might have a line on the next superstar chef. Let's wait and see.

      The owners have just announced a partnership with Daniel Boulud
      The rumour mill has it that Feenie's will be renamed db Moderne Bistro

        dB Bistro Moderne Vancouver according to the Globe & Mail. I'm very curious.

          I guess that "fits". A West coast location for the more ,,,at least as compared with his other restaurants... casual bistro concept he started with his New York city place.

            Hmm. It's a chain restaurant (albeit a highend one). I've never eaten at one, so I'll reserve comment.

                One has to wonder how someone who has (according to the Globe story) 7 other places as well as his flagship resto in NYC will manage things. I doubt he will be there much other than as a "name"; at least when Rob started out you got Rob (often) cooking your dinner.

              I wonder if the Sidoo's will be able to get staff back, they've had a hard time holding on to managers and FOH staff. It'll be interesting to watch.

                don't think feenie spent anytime there, but thomas haas sure did before returning here
