Satchmos in Collegeville - good stuff

Looking for something a bit different from the standard sandwich fare I decided to give Satchmos a shot. The owners that own the French Quarter Bistro in Royersford also own Satchmos, so there is a bit of a Cajun flair to their menu.

My dinner began with chicken and andouille gumbo which was very flavorful and had a nice kick to it. I haven't been to FQB in quite some time, but I suspect it's the same gumbo that is served there.

I also had a small order of chicken wings. The sauces offered are standard buffalo, honey bbq and voodoo. The wings were very tasty, of substantial size and the sauce was quite good.

My sandwich choice was the popcorn crawfish po'boy with voodoo sauce. It was served on a nice 10" hoagie roll with sour cream and cajun mustard. This sandwich is not for those that don't like spice as I quickly found myself grabbing a glass of milk to cool down my mouth, The sandwich was very flavorful and the popcorn crawfish was fried just right.

My only complain was the french fries as they are the "batter dipped" fries, which I am personally not a fan of. I'm not sure when this batter dipped fries movement started, but I wish it never did. It seems that finding good "real" french fries is becoming a serious challenge.

Overall I really enjoyed the food and I hope that Satchmos survives. It's location right on Main Street with no parking lot may prove to be a serious challenge to their survival.

        FYI:

Satchmo's is closing down on Wed 4/28 and will re-open in 2 weeks at the old Office Tavern location a few miles down Rt 29 at the intersection of Rt 29 & 113. I guess the location there on Main St with the crappy parking just wasn't cutting it, plus it looks like they will be serving alcohol at the new location. Also, it's no longer owned by the guy who owns the French Quarter Bistro in Royersford; he sold it in the past year or so.

Took me a while to figure out where you meant. (Maybe "up" Rt 29, not down :) )That's the old Rahns Hotel, back in the day a wonderful dive bar. Bartender was Henry, a smallish man who wore shirts several times too large so the breast pocket was at his waist and contained a walkie talkie. We saw him take a bottle of Coke once and pour some out, refill with rum and hand to a customer "to go." He smiled and matter of factly said, "just a little something I do." ahh, memories.

Anyway, really like Satchmos and hope they do well at their new location.

Satchmo's isn't owned by the Bistro owner anymore? And The Office Tavern is shutting down!? Very glad I ran into this post!

Where is Satchmo's located? Is French Quater Bistro worth trying? I've never heard anything good about the place so I've never been.

Satchmo's is on Ridge right across the street from the Wawa in Collegeville.

Just beware of the delivery! The drivers like to add their own private surcharge to the order. (Food is good, though.. just pick it up!!!!)

Couldn't agree with you more. I always go to Mark's French Quarter Bistro for the sandwiches and now Satchmo's has even more options. Mark struck a home run with this one!
