Where to read by the beach?

Hi there-

Can people please recommend nice, fairly quiet places you can sit and read for a couple of hours while enjoying coffee and maybe a light breakfast....Santa Monica, Venica, Marina del Rey preferred. THANKS

If you want something more upscale, Shutters would work well for this purpose.

If you want to be ON the beach, there is Fig Tree's Cafe on the boardwalk in Venice. It gets crowded on the weekends, but during the week it is a nice place to sit. The service always seems to be beach casual - i.e. SLOW - so sitting for a few hours is not hard, nor unusual. The food is pretty good, one of the better casual spots near the beach in Venice.

The Novel Cafe on Main is great for this.

I studied for the bar exam at the Cow's End at the end of Washington in Venice and they were wonderful about letting me hang out there for 8 hours at a time studying. I'm a big fan of the Big Bull wrap there for breakfast.
