breakfast near Walnut Creek

  • 6

I searched the boards and found nothing about breakfast in the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill area. I used to go to Il Fornaio sometimes when I was heading out of town but they no longer serve breakfast, at least not early. I will be in the area about 7:30 Friday morning, coming from Vallejo. Any ideas? I like eggs somehow, not much for pastry and I need good espresso.

thanks, Zenki

  1. This might be too downscale for you but Giant Chef Burger in PH is one of the few old style coffee shops left; per the Place link they open at 6am on Fri. I don't know if they have espresso, so call ahead.

    1. Almost forgot, Big Burger may be another option in the same style. Call ahead for hours and espresso availability :-).

      1. We like Sunrise Bistro (www.sunrisebistrocatering.com) and they serve espresso drinks - I have never had anything but a latte, but have enjoyed the lattes. You can also get a hearty breakfast at The Original Hick'ry Pit/Emil Villa's at 1495 S Main St
Walnut Creek, CA 94596. I don't think they serve espresso, but you can have smoked turkey in your omlette and then stop at Pacific Bay Coffee Co at 1495 Newell Avenue. Walnut Creek, CA 94596 for your espresso. (I have never been, but have heard good things re Pacific Bay.)

        1. Crepevine in downtown WC-not sure about espresso but eggs/pancakes quite tasty

thank you all. I will check out crepevine and the sunrise bistro. Hard to imagine cremevine doesn't offer espresso. their menu that is online doesn't say. Il fornaio offers a cafe early but that mens just pastries and coffee, maybe juice. In response to the burger recs, it is not the upscaleness but the coffee. I have a minor issue about potatoes as well, don't like the frozen shredded hashbrowns that absorb so much oil. The potatoes at Crepevine and at Sunrise sound great.

Crepevine has been closed for months now. There's a restaurant called Terra Mar in it's place, but haven't heard much about it.

I love Plaza Cafe on Contra Costa Blvd (in the Safeway shopping center) in Pleasant Hill. I've only been on weekends, but they have eggs benedict, buckwheat pancakes, etc.
