Indianapolis - "Gusto!" in Fountain Square

tmdenmark Mar 6, 2008 04:40 AM

Having never been a fan of pizza places here in Indy, "lo and behold" in Fountain Square is a place called "Gusto!" (1043 Virginia Avenue). Wow! I could recall going to that same location to eat at former establishments but when I walked in 2 weeks ago, the entire place was completely transformed! The decor of the former establishments was always very diner or shabby sheek but this place was not what I expected. It was a little more sophisticated than I had expected, not that beautiful $1200-$3000.00 artwork makes a place suddenly sophisticated, but it doesn't hurt because if the ambiance doesn't intrigue you, the artwork definitely will.

The pizzas are made to order and there are very few food items that are "canned" or "jarred". The owner, Tim Lutes is the mind behind the recipes. The menu is quaint and actual not that different fare from the normal restaurant but the flavors and fresh ingrediants were fabulous!

I highly recommend you drop by on "First Fridays", the first Friday of each month when the art studios are open as well.
