Wine and Cheese in Sicily
I will be in Sicily in June, with Agrigento as a base. I am searching for a caseificio (cheese producer) for a group of 12 to visit as a demonstration of cheesemaking and to taste the cheeses. It could be either a consorzio with a large production or a small artisnal producer. I have been to both in Tuscany, and both experiences have their merits. The type of cheese (or animal) isn't important, either.
Also, does anybody have any experience with any of the following for wine tastings and/or tours of the winery: Regaleali/Tasca d'Almerita, Donna Fugata, Settesoli, or Planeta?
In the province of Agrigento San Stefano di Quisquina is renowned for it's cheese, all sorts. You should be able to hunt something down on line. As far as visiting the wineries (Tasca d'Almerita, yum, and Planeta, yum, don't overlook Firriato , yum as well) Most tastings need to be booked and are for 8+ people minimum. Although we've never managed to gather 8 people at once, I've had really nice responses from both Planeta and Tasca d'Almerita, just contact them through their websites. We live in the province of Agrigento, in Cianciana, there is a wonderful local cheese producer here, but I wouldn't know about visiting (Rose of Taoromina-Ricotta), but maybe the townhall could help www.cianciana.com.
