"Supper" in Chatham, NJ
Has anyone heard of any dining experiences at Supper, the current occupant of the old Chatham Diner on Main St.? The menu looks kind of like a hybrid between conventional Jersey Italian (e.g., chicken Francaise over linguine) and mid-range hotel restaurant (grilled pork chop topped with apple raisin sauce with wild rice). The menu prices are a little higher than nearby old-timey places doing the same thing, like Top Notch, Broccolinis and Firehouse Pizza in Madison. www.supperonmain.com
This restaurant was reviewed in the Star Ledger on Easter Sunday. I dined there earlier in the week, and I'd say the review was accurate. The owner is charming, but the food is hit or miss. It kind of wants to be fancy comfort-food joint, but it's not quite pulling it off. They should lose the Italian-American dishes like the chicken Marsala and do more dishes like the hefty pork chop. It's not a destination.
