Has anyone had beer shipped to them from another state? Does anyone have a particular web-based stored they purchase from, or otherwise?

One of my classmates says that he can't get Fat Tire beer shipped to him because Federal law won't allow it, and I'm trying to prove him wrong....

Florida is very anal as to what alcohol can be imported across state lines without a distributor. Only recently could you order wine from out of state, but I believe the rule only applies to wine, not beer.

Hey! When did that happen? All distributors or only certain distributors? I tried ordering some wine from www.KLwines.com (awesome selection) 2 months ago and shipping to FL was blocked.

Apparently, this is a rapidly developing legal issue. Since the Free the Grapes debacle, I had just figured that it was legal to ship whatever whereever as long as you have the person it is being shipped to show ID upon delivery. But the states are still in the middle of battling it out amongst themselves.

It appears that, in order to be safe, lot of online sellers will not ship to any state that doesn't have current and clear regulations regarding the direct shipment of hooch.

It's also a huge no-no to send some to yourself as well.

Well, I'm glad I didn't order a that case of scotch from England for my husband at Christmas....

You can't order from a retailer, it has to be directly from the winery. I've gotten wines from Red Car and am have gotten on the lists for Long Shadows and Kistler, both of whom will deliver to FLA.

But of course there are some stupid bills in the legislature this year that want to block Floridians from purchasing wines from wineries that produce over a certain number of cases. What's the point in that? I have no idea, other than Southern Wine and its cohorts have got a mighty powerful lobby going.

Yeah, it's the distributors that are causing all the fuss (stupid distributors). Apparently Ohio has the same limits on number of cases per winery and per household. But it's just a mess there, and they are trying to fix the problem. Other states are trying to raise the price of a vendor's license in the state and other things to block smaller vendors out.

I also seem to remember that last Thanksgiving someone brought in an absolutely wonderful wine that they had shipped from CA (Peju, great table wine, which reminds me - I should order some). Maybe it's just beer.

My friend lives in Cocoa, so I'm sure he's never been there, but he said that he's called the brewery to find out where they distribute it to, and they said that they do not distribute east of the Mississippi River.

But I swear I've seen it over this way. Maybe I'll stop by "Total Wino" tonight -I need to get some sangria ingredients anyway.
