Boston Basil's - Kona, Hawai'i - Go!

crissyfi Mar 4, 2008 05:58 PM

On Ali'i Drive kind of across from the pier.
What a fantastic surprise this restaurant was! Our resort had a little party with door prizes - one of our group won a free personal pizza at Boston Basil's or a % discount on a total bill. We were interested in going, but not set upon it. Ended up working it in and -wow- sure are glad we did!
The outdoor tables should be avoided - consider it take out. No alcohol service on the sidewalk and throw away table service, which is fine if that's what you want... Our visit inside started off rough, being completely ignored by our waitress, who proceeded to serve a table that sat down more than 5 minutes after our group. Owner, Mike, came by to say hello, realized we had not even been greeted. Mike took over our service, good move on his part. We went from being ready to walk out to knowing that this was a place we'd recommend to everyone. Having been to Boston's North End, Mike actually seemed pleased we were about to compare his restaurant to our favorites in his home town.
North End Fried Ravioli - very good! After several minutes on the table (because we were busy with chat, drinks, and salads) the cheesy center was still warm, smooth, and creamy.
Salads and Garlic bread - Yeah! They nailed this - huge chunk of buttery, seasoned garlic bread & lots of salad, not drenched in dressing, not dry either.
Entrees were Pesto Linquine, Chicken Parmesan, & Chicken Picatta (sp?). All 3 entrees were generous in size, their aroma hit the table before the plates, and were good enough to bring the chat to an immediate halt - a moment of silence befell our table. Leftovers for lunch the next day heated up well too, a bonus.
We shared a dessert - still not quite sure how we worked it in, must have been the crevices between pasta. :) Italian lemon creme cake with a cranberry compote. Get Outta Town! This was fantastic! If you're visiting the big island, an Italian dinner might not be the first thing on your mind, but GO! Go have some pasta, don't skip dessert.
