B'more Hamilton dinner and good beer

guyacrossthehall Mar 4, 2008 02:52 PM

Driving to Baltimore for a Friday night concert in Hamilton and need recs for casual places. I'm meeting an out-of-state friend who thinks quality beer is as important as good food. Any brewpubs or good bar food nearby? Is it worth driving down to The Brewer's Art for a true beer lover who's never been there? It might also help to know where to get a good crab cake in or near Hamilton if he decides he can't leave Maryland without having at least one.

Koko's Pub has a good crabcake near Hamilton, at least it used to.

I second the recommendation for Koco's pub. They have THE BEST crabcakes!!! Just regular beers though. 4301 Harford Rd.

Koco's is the best casual place in the area and almost exclusively for their crabcakes. The highlight of their beer selection is Dos Equis Amber on draft. Dizzy Issie's in Remington is good and casual, particularly the burgers and has a decent beer selection. But if you're really all about the beer, hit Brewer's Art and make sure you order the fries with rosemary and garlic. Go to the bar and eat off the menu there. Concert in Hamilton? Who and where, pray tell.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Brewer's Art is open late so maybe we can do dinner before somewhere else then hit it after the show. I'll leave our options open. The show is at Faith Community United Methodist Church of Hamilton on Harford presented by Uptown Concerts, "dedicated to the preservation and promotion of folk and traditional music". We'll just add dedication to the "promotion of Belgian beers and rosemary garlic fries" on our own.

Any opinions on Big Bad Wolf's House of Barbeque? It's really close on Harford.

Big Bad Wolf is great. Limted seating at the counter, it's more of a take-out place.

            How about the Chameleon Cafe?

one of the partners in Brewers Art is opening a place on Harford Road- The old Hamilton Tavern, should be open by June- so we no longer have to go to Brewer's Art or Fells Point for a good brew.

Thanks! That helps.. I went searching for it (Hamilton Tavern) last weekend and couldn't find it while driving.

                    I'll give it another look!

The Hamilton Tavern is located on the northeast corner of Harford Road and Wisteria Avenue, which is short block north of Hamilton Avenue (on the right driving north on Harford). It has brick front with its name in dark green letters. Workers are gutting the place right now, so the rumor of a new restaurant might be true. If so, this is great news as Hamilton has been getting pretty shabby lately. The Hamilton Tavern itself was a nasty, smoky dive sprinkled with habitues whom you probably wouldn't want to invite over for dinner. Let's hope the Brewer's Art thing and Clementine's works out so that we don't see more discount hair products and pawn shops!

I certainly second that. I just saw them listed on the web page as a sponsor for the Hamilton Art Crawl on May 1-3rd. But no website was given or anything else offered more than a logo.

please let this be true! I have an awesome house in Hamilton and I think the area would boom with a restaurant like that in the area. A Brewers art quality restaurant I can walk to..... heaven.

Drove by Clementine's this morning- Its actually directly across from the CVS Pharmacy. Cant really tell much by the inside, as its under construction, but the signs are up.
It would be great to see more new things like this- we NEED new options out here!

I'm a fan of the beer selection at Grand Cru in Belvedere Square

It is definitely worth driving to if your fried likes good beer. They have a wonderful selection of Belgian and German beers plus their own wonderful house made beers. It is a great place architecturally, too!

Of course I meant 'friend'! I love The Brewer's Art- it is a gem. Your friend would love it. We are the couple opening Clementine on Harford Rd. We will be open Wednesday morning at 7:30 am. We will start dinner this Friday, Saturday and Sunday night as well as breakfast and lunch Wednesday through Sunday. Thank you for the interest and we are so excited to be almost open!

There's a place simply called "Buffalo Wings and Beer" at the shopping center at Harford Road and Taylor Avenue, about 2 miles north of the Hamilton area. It doesn't sound fancy, but the wings are really good, the place is clean with a nice pool hall in the back, and the beer is a good selection at a great price. On the night that I was there Heineken's were $1.50 per bottle - hard to beat. Enjoy the show.
