I was skimming a back issue of Westchester Mag today (how fortuitous!) and noted that they gave the "best cheesesteak" rating to Tayste in White Plains on Mamaroneck. Never tried it myself. Since I'm originally from Phila I kind of cringe at the imitations they serve elsewhere

Tayste closed or was converted several months back. It's called Texas something now. I don't know if it was actually sold or just changed but one way or another it is, I think, under new management. However, the place and the menu are much like that of Tayste. Not sure if they still do cheesesteak or if the cheesesteak when it was Tayste was actually all that. I don't find Westchester Magazine to be very credible.

I actually like the Philly cheesesteak at Tayste. Too bad they closed

Texas was horrible and is rightfully long gone. Now that place is a Turkish kebab/gyro spot and is very good. We don't have many of those north of the city!

I know of two great ones, Mullers in Scarsdale and Gianni's in scarsdale. The are both top notch...

rich51, I know I saw (on Sandford Blvd.?) on returning from Ripe in Mount Vernon a small place that I have read about here, that is only Philly Cheesesteaks.

And here it is, found it:

I recently ate at the New Rochelle location. I wouldn't consider any of those cheesesteaks to be traditional "Philly" cheesesteaks. For one thing, they don't offer cheese whiz.
