Best in Westwood

I'm going out with my family of four tomorrow to westwood. We won't know when exactly we'll dine so reservations won't work. That being said, what are some good dinner places with entrees at 17 and below?

  1. Shaherzad on Westwood Blvd. south of Wilshire. Excellent Persian food.

Get the Soltani, estamboli polo, ghaimeh-bademjan, ghormeh sabzi, and have the faloudeh, bamieh (with tea), or bastani for dessert.

I much prefer Shamshiri over Shaherzad, with Flame in between. I like Shamshiri's food better, the atmosphere is nicer, and the service is much warmer -- I've received very cursory service at Shaherzad, not being a regular.

In Westwood Village itself, my go-to for very moderately priced food with guests is Thai House, across from the Whole Foods on Gayley. It is much more sedate and relaxing than other places nearby, with carpeted floors, real glassware and table-settings, and very good service. I like the mee krob as a starter and the yellow curry, the pad thai is fresh and passable but bland. The prices are no more than the get-em-in, get-em-out places nearby like Noodle Planet, but the food and atmosphere are much better.

    2. I you want to dine in Westwood "Village" (= North of Wilshire), Then every choice on the menu I have in front of me is under $17 at:

      Mio Babbo's - Italian (NYC neighborhood style-like):
      1076 Gayley Ave., 5 - 10 p.m.
