3 dinners on per diem, near LAX

withalonge Mar 3, 2008 07:19 PM

Hi all... am attending a conference near LAX next week and will be in the area of LAX for three nights. I am on a per diem (woo hoo)... not a huge per diem, but still not too bad. I am looking for dinner places as I won't have a long lunch hour.. and due to time constraints, what passes for breakfast at the hotel will have to do... so I'd kind of like to make up for so-so food with a nice(er) dinner.

Last year I moved from NorCal to Colorado and I've been missing decent mexican food (hole in the wall to upscale)... great chile verde is the main requirement, no one here seems to know what a tomatillo is and seem to think "green chile" and "chile verde" are the same thing...

I'd also really like some good seafood... particularly anyplace that has fresh crab! Also, authentic Thai or Chinese would be great too... and lastly, any other places where the food is great... and one can grab a beer or nice cocktail and relax with co-workers.

Thank you in advance!

Big question is how you'll be traveling (rental car? cab?) and how far from LAX you're willing to go. Choices right there are pretty limited, so they wider your diameter the more options we'll be able to offer.

the sheraton has one of the best LA steakhouses--shulas. there is a great italian at the beach. but you would need a car.

For some good Thai, Chaba in Redondo Beach would be my pick. About 20 minutes south of LAX on Pacific Coast HIghway. Hole in the wall MExican, Sions in Manhattan Beach , also on Pch and 2nd street. Actually the El Torito on the Redondo Beach pier has some excellent specialties. I love their sizzling green enchilads, good and spicy, drinks are weak, but the views are great. If you want fresh crab, just go to the pier and have them cook one up for you. On the weekends it is a hoot with all the famioys having a feast. Kincaids is an upscale restaurant with fish and seafood that may meet your needs.

Sorry, KIncaids didn't get attached. It's weird you can't see what gets attached until ou send.
