Best Cheap Coffee in NYC

With a Starbucks on every other corner, I realize I'm looking for a fast-fading, wondrous thing here...a cup of GOOD coffee on the cheap. I'm not talking about the 75-cent cup of swill you can get at any deli or stree-cart. I want quality, aroma, taste--and preferably no more than $1.25.

I'll second Porto Rico, though I tend to go to the Bleecker location (6th Ave.). Also, Veselka in the east village serves a decent cup of $1.25 coffee, as I recall.

Porto Rico is usually pretty good. I like Grey Dog's coffee on Carmine St.(very good decaf as well). For more expensive coffee--Ninth Street Espresso

Grey Dog on Carmine has great coffee, but I think it costs a bit more than the OP is looking to spend (though probably less than Starbucks).
