Has anyone ever been here? New York Magazine said they have a good margarita, i was wondering about the food...

  1. I'm a fan and am surprised it doesn't get more love on these boards. Everything I've had there has been great, especially the brisket tacos with horseradish crema, which are particularly crave-worthy. The only thing that's a bit of a drag is the upsell from servers, but they're generally well-informed and friendly otherwise.

    1. I ate there about a month or two after they first opened. The margaritas are fine, but the food was distinctly subpar IMO.

      1. Went there last night for the first time. This place is really good. Had two margaritas, one with grapefruit and some carbonated soda and the second was a more traditional one with cointreau and lime. Both delicious. Fruit guacamole was delicious, nice textures. Had a peculiar small plate called sopes de requeson: corn cake with chorizo and quail egg(?) and cheese atop it. That was really interesting and unexpected. And of course tasty. How could it not be with those ingredients? The standout was the entree. Braised beef rib in a habenero (I think) inflected sauce reduction with pomegranate seeds. The heat was present but not overpowering, kind of like a Jean-George dish. The beef was, of course, melt in your mouth, and the seeds provide nice texture and sweet/sour balance to the heat. Outstanding dish. Service was great and the room (we ate upstairs) was nicely appointed. I hated seating on the banquettes though. They are too soft and are about half a foot lower than the chair opposite. So, I was looking up at my friend the whole time. But that's a minor quibble. The price is not exactly cheap, but well worth it. In my opinion, a nice addition to the dining scene.

I work in the area, and had a fish taco craving. So I just sat at the bar, and ordered that for lunch. Not the biggest portion (only two tacos, with rice and beans on the side) but for taste and quality, it was very good. I would def. go back. The tacos were delicious.

        2. Has anyone been to Toloache for brunch? Impressions?
