Best lard-free burritos

aventinus Mar 2, 2008 05:46 PM

I love burritos, especially Mission-style, but I hate the taste of lard. Where should I go?

Tacos Por Favor on Olympic and 14th in Santa Monica has delicious lard-free burritos. I've been craving their al pastor burrito for a while.

For fast food, I like Sharky's. Their fish tacos and fish burritos are some of the best fast-food I've ever eaten. No lard.

        No lard? Not authentic!

Kay and Daves doesn't use lard in anything -- very healthy and delicious. One in West LA on Pico and the original one on (I think) 26th Street off of San Vicente Blvd. in Brentwood.

The border burrito at Eduardo's is sort of Mission-style. It has rice, black beans, guac, sour cream, cheese, meat (grilled steak or chicken only), and salsa. The tortilla isn't steamed though, it's griddled. They don't use lard in their beans. If you get it to go they will wrap it in foil!

Hardly Mission, but definitely lard free - Poquito Mas.

                It's a chain, but try Wahoo's. www.wahoos.com

The new Yuccas (Yucas?) on Hollywood across from Cobras and Matadors has vegie burritos w/ lard free beans and tortillas. My veg friends swear by them.
