Is Western Bagel in Tustin the best bagel in Orange County? Any other candidates? Looking for a good cream cheese and lox bagel ...

  1. I always thought Bagel Me! - near Newport Blvd & Main (714)731.1035 - made some pretty excellent bagels. Freshly warm and slightly doughy. Cranberry(mm!), jalapeno, everything, you name it plus spreads galore. Brought them to the office and was hero of the day.

Not a true bagel, but Shirley's (on Bristol in NB) Danish bagels with the cream cheese & topping baked in the middle are sooo wonderful - nothing better than a cup of Diedrich's & one of these on a Saturday morning.

Western Bagels are excellent - when bought there - somehow they just don't transport well to the local supermarket. I also like Trader Joe's 4 grain (?) bagels with the sesame seeds & other stuff all smooshed into them - great toasted.

Shirley's bagel danish are also served at my drive through coffee/espresso place - the Daily Grind at PCH & Warner in Huntington Beach. The pumpkin ones are very popular around the holiday season.

Just re-read my post. To clear this up, the drive through coffee place is not MY place. It's my neighborhood place, "mine" in the sense that I drive through almost every morning for a latte. It's a local chain (Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, and Los Alamitos) that's WAY better than Starbucks. Drive through only, though, and not open past 7 pm.
