I'd like to hear other's opinions about this Italian restaurant (next to the Alex Theatre on Brand Blvd.) in Glendale, Far Niente. People raved, and the prices hinted at great quality, but it seems to me it did not compare to some other LA or Orange County Italian places I've enjoyed. I would really like to know how other patrons rate the menu, service, valet, comfort, etc. at Far Niente. Thanks.
(The best thing the kids liked about it was that it was just across the street from Zany Brainy, so we ended up there)

More show than sustance. I would consider Fresco just down the street a bit south for up scale and possible Osterria Nonni in Atwater for less pricey.

I would like to agree. We frequent the Glendale restaurants a lot. For local Italians, Far Niente is just not that great - nothing special about the food or the ambience, but the prices do not reflect this. Fresco is more expensive, but at least it's worth it. Osteria (ate there last night) is less expensive with better food, (stay with the pastas, especially the "plain" garlic and olive oil), though rather plain and less comfortable.
Consider Gennaro's on North Brand - it's fancier than Far Niente, with much better food and atmosphere though more $, and Milano's on Brand - excellent fish and chicken preparations and better than average pastas.
