Birmingham cheese steaks

What's the name of that place near UAB that got all the buzz over its Philly Cheese Steaks? We're going to the UAB basketball game on Wednesday and thought we'd give it a try. Other suggestions also would be welcome.

Haven't tried it yet, but the Philly @ Lenny's in Homewood always looks and smells delish. Will have to give it a try and report back...

I see this was already answered. Have you ever had the philly special at V. Richard's? Decent quality steak grilled with fresh onions and mushrooms on their homemade roll, topped with melted white cheese. I had one yesterday and it was just ok. I guess that I'mm still not keen on the whole pre-melted cheese/sauce idea, regardless of its popularity in Philly.

We had a saying whenever our group went to Philly: Don't let the Cheez Whiz scare you.
Frankly, I could live with a cheese steak without the cheese, just as I could live without the kraut in a Ruben. Guess I'm just weird that way.

I think the place is called T'Bones.

Thanks, sheilal. About 10 seconds after I posted this inquiry, I found my answer. It was Salem's and it's not near UAB, but rather in downtown Homewood.

Flyerguy reported on Salem's in this thread:
