Veggie options downtown

nowonmai11 Feb 29, 2008 10:17 AM

I'm working on restaurant recs for a conference coming in march. The conference hotel is The Sheraton on Canal St. I'm trying to find some place with some good vegetarian options for dinner within walking distance of the hotel. I know a completely vegetarian restaurant is a a lost cause in that area, so I just need a rec for some place that has some options.

Thanks in advance.

13, a bar/restaurant on frenchmen, has some pretty solid vegetarian options. open late, too.

Bennachin, Mona Lisa, Angeli, Mona's on Frenchman would all have multiple veggie menu items.

God... I love Bennachin. The black eye pea fritters are worth the plane trip alone!

Add Adolfo's to that list and it's pretty comprehensive! There is a terrific vegetarian gumbo at the Gumbo Shop on St Peter next to Jackson Square. Ask for the Gumbo Z'herbs.

Just went to Mona Lisa on Good Friday, really enjoyed it. Good food, great service.

Salt n Pepper is an indian place in the quarter. It's a hole in the wall that looks scary to walk into, but it's surprisingly good.

Technically, it's Pakistani. You're right--it is scary looking, yet has tasty food. Just don't look too hard at the floor, or behind the counter, or in the tiny hallway by the bathroom....
