Where can one buy this quintessential New York treat?

  1. I saw it at Garden of Eden on 23rd st. the other day. There's another branch on 14th st. and there may be others.

Now I'm craving an egg cream.

    1. Any Food Emporium or Gristedes will carry Fox's U-Bet. I grew up on the stuff.

      1. In addition to retail locations you can order directly from the company in Brooklyn. I believe that the U-Bet syrups are kosher year-round. The label states 'sugar &/or corn syrup' The only time you can be certain of a cane sugar formula is if the label states "kosher for Passover" as corn syrup is prohibited during that time. Here's a link to their site:

Agreed-egg cream purists stock up and buy a case around passover.

        2. The Associated at Park & 22nd has it, so I'd guess they all do.

Fresh Direct sell it as well.

          2. Do you know of any place that uses Fox's U bet for their egg cream?

                I think Sammy's Roumanian uses Fox's U-Bet.

              2. Most grocery stores carry it. I've seen it at Food Emporium at 14th Street, Jubilee Market at Gold and John Streets, but I usually but it at Economy Candy on Rivington Street on the Lower East Side. It's usually cheapest there. I think $2.50 a bottle. They even sell it in gallon jugs there. Lisette-i'll bet the Soda Shop on Chambers Street uses it in their egg creams.

                1. I've gotten it from Fresh Direct.

                  1. Many years ago,I went with a wonderful women in Brooklyn who said she was related to Fox-U-Bet,unfortunately I can't remember Irene's or Elaine's last name.....Zimmerman or Zimmer.....they may be dead,I hope not, they were gorgous ,beautiful, super nice..lost touch..( just clutching at strays so to speak )Hope you might known about that family,or whatever?....Otto
