Oyster bars in GTA

I've only been to a couple (Oyster Boy and Prohibition). Any other recommendations (besides Rodney's) in and around the Toronto area?
Thanks!

i really like Prohibition. It's casual, they play great music and the oyster guy really loves his shellfish and it shows!

i've heard good things about Starfish, I'll have to check it out.

good to hear...i go by it every day and have resisted because prohibition/booze emporium is a stupid name...don't judge a book by its cover, i guess.

you don't like the name?? I thought it was brilliant!
What I thought was stupid was that they weren't allowed to call it Booze Emporium because it encouraged drinking. It's a bar for god's sake!

Most of the oysters in Toronto come from 3 sources- Rodney's, Oyster Boy or Starfish. Each of them own their own oyster beds & buy the imported oysters from the same suppliers. They then sell them to other restaurants.
For a casual night & a pint of Guinness, Oyster Boy is great. For more upscale (and more variety), Starfish can't be beat.

i checked out the Starfish menu. I can't believe they have fresh sea urchin! and the prices aren't too bad either.
          I'm making reservations!

A little off topic but.... I am surprised that you have a hard time finding fresh sea urchin. I would think a good number of Japanese restaurants would have uni.

            1. re: sweetie

it's always hit and miss with sea urchin. a lot of the times, the restaurant is either out or it's not fresh. i've had bad uni once and now i'm very careful!

      3. Starfish is very good. The owner is the Oyster shucking world champion. It's on Adelaide near Jarvis.

        1. If you're in the north part of the city, Terra (Yonge, just south of Hwy 7), has a decent oyster bar - or did, as I haven't visited in a year.

          1. The Pure Spirits Oyster House & Grill in the Distillery District is really good! Website: http://www.purespirits.ca/

Starfish is great. If you go you must try the daily chowder. It is always wonderful.
And believe it or not, they have amazing frites!
