Mexican in the Western Suburbs
A few weeks back I tried Tacos El Porton... the couple is from the Oaxacan Mixteca & Teloloapan... really nice.. I tried to like it but everything was mediocre. Last night I tried Adobo Grill.... its pretty decent if you know what to order.

This night I tried Ayala's on North Ave... in the same shopping center as Portillo's. I sat at the bar and they served good complimentary Chicharrones with hot sauce... I had the Caldo de Res and it was quite good.... beer is priced well. Most importantly the owner is from Nuevo Leon where Cabrito is the regional specialty and if you can source a 40 day old Kid... he will be more than happy to prepare it for you.
BTW, the locals from Mexico D.F. told me to try out La Mina in Lombard for specialities like Garnachas... I might give it try tomorrow...stay tuned.

Had a very nice lunch at Ayala's yesterday. We arrived at 12:30 on Saturday and there was no one else in the place!. About four couples showed up while we were there, so it seems like that's a good time to go. Had pork with salsa verds and Potatoes with beef in oregano sauce. Both very good, and enough to take home for supper tonight.

ByBy's in West Chicago has some very nice Oaxacan specialties. It's a tiny cramped place, but they serve up great tlacoyos, Oaxacan style tamals, and other maybe not so Oaxacan specials on the weekend like soup with fiedos, birria, champurrado, quesadillas with huitlacoche and flor de calabaza and lots of prepartions with nopales.
