Hi,

I will be staying at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito for two nights, and one night I am eating in the hotel, so I need a recommendation for the other night. Any thoughts. No Restrictions. Just good food...

I know a great place in downtown Santa Barbara. Try Ca'Dario. It's my favorite restaurant in SB. The smoked salmon pasta is amazing, actually, all their food is amazing. It's very reasonable and all the locals go there. Sorry I can't help you for Montecito proper.

I recently had dinner at Bouchon in downtown SB and it was FABULOUS!!!!

Mollie's Trattoria on Coast Village Road (N. Italian) in Montecito is one of Oprah's favorites and can hit some very high notes, and some times not. But it is an experience to try. It is an elegantly casual restaurant, with a little bit of an attitude, but probabl the best fine dining alternative in Montecito, after the Ranch.

If you want to come into Santa Barbara and go casual: La Superica on Milpas Street (Julia Child's favorite local place to eat) and try the Number 15 Tocino Special. Or the Hungry Cat on Chapala Street at West Anapamu (down block from the Art Museum) and have their Pug Burger. Good chowhound eating at both places.

Wow, these seem like some good recommendations. Mollie's and Bouchon sound great but after having a nice dinner at the SYR it might be nice to go to La Superica one night... Is this the best Mexican in Santa Barbara/Montecito?

How is the restaurant at San Ysidro Ranch? My GF is a fan of Oprah so Mollie's would probably be a good stop too.

          Ca Dario.
          Bouchon.
          Hungry Cat.
          Emilio's.
          Downey's.
          Holdren's for steak.
          Opal.
          Zaytoon.
Or...the best meal...go to Lazy Acres, get some takeout from the deli and picnic up on Shoreline Park overlooking the ocean!

Even better, how about a picnic up at Franceschi Park overlooking the whole city and ocean on America's Riviera behind the still closed El Encanto Hotel.

Walk down from the parking lot on this fabulous hillside park and botanic garden to the large, tree shaded patio with sweeping views right next to this curious historic house dedicated to the pioneer botanist that brought most of the original mediterranean vegetation to this town.

Pierre LaFond's in Upper Village Montecito used to be a fairly good deli. Is it still there?
