Rockville/Bethesda place for 40th birthday party?

I want to surprise my husband with a 40th birthday party. I am looking at about 50 people and would like a fun smart casual place that has an open bar option/appetizer option per person. Looking in the Rockville/Bethesda location - hopefully very close to a hotel and near other bars to continue the festivities. Doesn't have to be top of the line - more concerned with how much fun we can have. This will be in early December so it can't be outdoors. Thanks!

i would contact Grapeseed to see if something could be worked out, the food is terrific and the setting would be perfect

i second the grapeseeds suggestion. Since they are a wine bar and good restaurant with many app/bar snack options they would probably be happy to do something for you. And i understand they now have a private room after the recent reno.

Try Sapphire Cafe on Wisc Ave next door to Doubletree Hotel. They have good Happy Hour spcials. (301) 986-9708

sapphire seems a bit too lowbrow for this type of event

Not exactly Bethesda, but I'm pretty sure that you could rent out the bar at Lias. I've seen holiday parties there before (i pass it on my way home every day).

they have great food, but not sure it's the type of location you'd like.

Take a look at the upstairs at Tragara in downtown Bethesda. Room for a DJ and small dance floor, as well.

I would try the guys at Visions - they are very accomodating - the chefs (Iddy and Tony) are great and wait staff are fun. close to metro/hotels/other bars. I enjoy the food too!
