There was a great restaurant in Westwood Village named Maui Beach. Everytime I went there the place was packed and the food was good. Whatever happened to Maui Beach restaurant? I was just there less than a year ago, did it close and why?

  1. I think it closed over the summer. Not enough business, I presume

I would also like to know what happened. They always seemed to be busy, and when it closed all the signs said it was to do a remodel. I can only imagine they had financial problems?????

They started out with great Asian fusion cuisine - it was a bit pricey but not out of range especially when you consider the exorbitant cost of Eurochow down the road.

Great fish with interesting sauces, things like that. Then they got new management and they cut costs. They raised the prices but mostly what was on the menu was glorified teriyaki bowls at $14.99 a pop.

People started staying away because they could eat elsewhere for so much less. Add to this the perennial problem of parking in Westwood Village (remember, that public lot on Broxton that gives you 2 hours free wasn't open until a year or two ago), and you have a recipe for ick, ick, ick.

The real pity of this place was that they started in Manhattan Beach and had a tremendous following. They thought THAT following would ~ahem~ follow them to Westwood. It didn't happen and the combination of spending too much money on their Westwood decor and lack of clientelle forced them to close.
