Arsenal Kobe Burger

WOW! The kobe burger ($13) at The Arsenal is FANTASTIC! It absolutely rivals Father's Office, and you don't have to deal with the insane crowds, fight for tables, or wait in line at the bar to order.

  1. Isn't that a Mollyomormon frequent recommendation? I've got to convince my wife to go. She thinks she won't like it and has dug her heels in about going. Looks like it's time to get out the old heel grease and get some serious slippage started.

      I don't know who Mollyomormon is, but if she recommends The Arsenal, she is a genius. I can't believe I have lived in West LA for 5 years and have never eaten there before. It's Shangri La.

        The Arsenal burger *is* great! I still give FO's burger the edge because I think the meat there is seasoned better and you're more likely to get a burger cooked to order, but if you hate the hassle (lack of customizable options, no full bar, crowds, absence of ketchup) at FO's this could be the ideal solution. I know yogachick is a fan too. They also serve sweet potato fries at the Arsenal, but they're more in the style of shoestring.

        Get the grease out!

        p.s. Not to increase the crowds, but I had a duck confit salad at FO this weekend that was delicious.

          The duck confit salad was amazing! I also love their white anchovies.

      2. The Arsenal is a West side secret that the Santa Monica snobs that go to Father's Office don't know about. Their menu and service are fantastic. Try not to go on Thurs, Fri, or Sat when it get's really crowded.

            I think this "kobe" burger thing is a trendy upsell. If The Arsenal really grinds prime beef for its burgers, I sincerely doubt that most people who pop the extra bucks for the "kobe" (which probably isn't kobe anyway) would be able to tell the difference in a blind side-by-side taste test. If you have choice or better beef which is mostly chuck, with enough of a fat content, fresh, seasoned, and grilled correctly, you don't need to pay extra for "angus," "wagyu," or "kobe" to have an excellent burger. And if you actually have the "better" beef, then it is a waste to grind it -- should be simply seared.

              Ditto. I have been somewhat disappointed with nearly every "kobe" "angus" and "wagyu" burger I've eaten. And I've eaten A LOT. Almost none of them stand up to a good old-fashioned ground chuck burger with the right amount of fat content. I just don't think those cuts were made for grinding.
