Asheville(and beyond) - various news

Stovetrotter's - as you may have gleaned from this site, there has been a recent shake-up with the chef and 2 other key individuals leaving. No telling what effect this will have on this new restaurant. There are lots of talented chefs/cooks in Asheville, but it may take time to get a team together.
TV reports of health dept ratings - The local news (WLOS) had been running some sensationalized reports of health department ratings, many times making much out of nothing but sometimes making you think twice about making reservations at some of your favorites. I guess the restaurants who advertise w/ the station objected so what I hear now is that they are going to tone this down and only report on the better ratings.
28806 Cafe-Deli is slated to open a new restaurant downtown this Spring. They will occupy a building next to Rosetta's.
Market Place is opening Bar 100 within their restaurant to offer $8-$18 priced offerings in a "casual dining experience".
New places: Thirsty Monk on Coxe Ave and Chocolate Lounge on S. Lexington are two of my new favorites though it sounds like The Admiral in West Asheville is a must-try. I also see that Tomato (Cucina Latina) has been working on their building and outside patio which should be nice in the warmer weather.
French Broad Taqueria - heard that they now have liquor license and have a bar area...still only 4 tables. They are gearing up for patio dining in the warmer weather.

  1. Thanks for keeping us "in the loop," Leah. What can you tell us about The Admiral? (I've heard of it, but that's about it.)

Yeah, thanks. I feel like I should being paying a Leah a consultant fee ;-)

We went to Vigne the other night, and I passed on dessert to go get myself a little box of Chocolate Lounge caramels. $1 each seems like a lot until you're faced with the price of an upscale restaurant dessert, then I realized, HELL! I can go live it up!!

luscious and salty. and tiny. they don't seem to be making my butt tiny, however.

I'm not sure there's any safe way for a gentleman to respond to THAT.

    2. Thanks for the news.

The 28806 cafe-deli next to Rosetta's sounds like it's got real potential.

Market Place seems like they are recognizing the situation in the economy and offering something more affordable. Maybe more places will adjust their prices. I'll be dropping by to sample their food.
