Guinea Fowl in San Diego

DougOLis Feb 26, 2008 10:37 PM

Does anyone know where I can get Guinea Fowl around here? I'm not sure if I've ever seen it around. I was going to make Thomas Keller's Guinea Fowl with Confit Byaldi from The French Laundry Cookbook, but that's going to be hard to do without the bird.

Similarly, where can I get Japanese Eggplant for the Confit Byaldi? Chino Farms? Nijiya or Mitsuwa? Is it even in season?

I saw Guinea Fowl (frozen) once at Tip Top Meats. You might want to give them a call before driving to Carlsbad. Japanese Eggplant is quite often available at WF in LJ

Japanese eggplants are plentiful and inexpensive at 99 Ranch. I've seen them there year-round.

Try Whole Foods in Hillcrest for the Guinea Fowl. Sisel's and Iowa Meat Farms will order and procure anything....for a price.

Japanese eggplants are pretty easy to find. 99 Ranch is a great suggestion. I've seen them very inexpensively at Vine Ripe Market in La Mesa and I'm pretty sure that North Park Produce also stocks them regularly.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I just called Iowa Meat Farms and they do carry Guinea Fowls. I tried Hillcrest Whole Foods yesterday and they looked at me like I was crazy.

I'll try either Vine Ripe or 99 Ranch for the Japanese eggplants.

I see Guinea Fowl quite often at Whole Foods in La Jolla. You can also get them delivered from D'Artagnan or Grimaud Farms (Stockton, CA).

yeah you can get them mail order but Iowa meats has them, that place it carnivore heaven, a bit pricey though.
