Top notch place for 40th Birthday

Will be in San Fran for 2 nights an done of them is my 40th birthday, where should I eat. Love french food, smaller places and personality. Want to hear what the locals think, in other words where would you go n your birthday?

I just had my 40th birthday at The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton. It's a hotel, I know, but truly the food and service were flawless. It was an outstanding and unforgettable dining experience. I took my partner to Masa's for his birthday this past year, and he said it "was a close second" next to The Dining Room. We also both love La Folie. For a world-class dining experience, you can't go wrong at any of these places.

One problem with Quince is the possibility you could get sued from alienation of affection if you should become attached.

Spruce - make sure to have the charcuterie platter. . .it is stellar

Michael Mina - I am not a fan of the space but the food is very good.

If you would like to take a little trip:

Cyrus - excellent food, excellent service
