Fat Cat Quincy - eh
I wanted to like this place...but I found it to be mediocre and the service to be just shy of expectations.
My sister and I ordered wings and burgers...the medium rare burgers were almost uncooked - WAY too rare but by the time we noticed, we had already added condiments and cut in half to eat (so felt it was too late to send back).
Besides this, it was too bready...they use a Ciabatta roll (which normally I love) but it was too big and unruly. What a mess.
We ordered buffalo wings medium heat and they were just average and mostly the tiny wing section instead of the meaty drumstick section of the wing...and two tiny pieces of celery came with it. Every time the waiter came to our table, he failed to notice our empty drink glasses before he'd run off, so we had to call him back to ask for refills.
I thought everything that came to the table around us also looked just average...I almost ordered the pulled pork sandwich but the table next to us left it uneaten for the most part becuase of the "toasted bun" that honestly, was black and burned. It made us think twice about ordering the dish. I won't be back, unfortunately. It wasn't worth the money we spent...
I've been there probably too often and there have only been one or two things that haven't been very good. Sorry you didn't like it.
We always order the XXX wings because they are perfectly hot for us. I agree that I expected them to be much, much hotter as they are the hottest that they offer. Am told that hardly anyone orders the XXX, so maybe it's a Quincy thing.
I think they make great burgers and I like the chewie ciabatta, but it is a lot of bread. You can order it on a different bun. SEND BACK an undercooked burger even if you've dressed and cut it. Similarly, send back a burned bun. I can't understand why people won't do this. I have seen a few things go back and returned personally by the owner with an apology.
The lobster mac and cheese is heavenly. I have never tasted garlic in it that I could identify. It is a large portion, but the other half is perfect for Monday lunch at work.
I'm sure the hype will die down but probably not soon. I hear more and more people talking about it. It is a great place to have nearby.
I was there on a recent Sat. afternoon and most food was good, not great pub food. I thought the nachos were GREAT, we had the pulled pork which I loved. I had the fish and chips and liked the chips, did not like the fish. Thought the breading was way too much and I'm a HUGE fan of the fish and chips at Zalek's on the N. Shore-perfect batter and fish is excellent...one pup had the burger which was cooked correctly but was cumbersome due to the bread-his was more like foccaica and hard to bite. Older pup had a wrap and other dc had the lobster mac and cheese which I thought had way too much garlic. I could eat a side of this but not a whole portion, way too rich. Staff was great, very friendly and attentive.
