best pastries near 11th av and 46th
Dear hounds,
My wife and I will be vacationing in Manhattan 3/30-4/4. We'll be going to jazz clubs every night (opera one night), as well as sight-seeing during the days. I've been enjoying this board, and have taken notes on various tips. I'll have more questions as our dates approach. We will be staying near 11th Av and 46th and our hotel includes continental breakfast. In the event that we find the quality doesn't meet our standards, or that we're sleeping in too late, are you able to recommend the best choice within walking distance for my wife to find excellent pastries, juice and black tea (with milk). As for me, I'd prefer a bowl of granola and a banana, but perhaps we won't find all that at one location. Counter service with tables preferred to sit down or grab and go. Thanks!

If your hotel is, indeed, on 9th Av. & 46th St. (though I have to admit that it's news to me that one is actually located there), you're in luck because that's exactly where Amy's Bread is located -- on 9th, b/t 46th & 47th. Aside from the superb breads, there are pastries, cakes, cookies, sandwiches, salads, etc., and liquid refreshments. It's a small shop with several tables at the rear. You can view the continental breakfast offerings, as well as all the other items, on the website.
