2 brief LIC notes

-Consistently decent (and justifiably hopping at 10am on Saturday) Cafe Henri now is serving beer and wine (but not booze). Wine list looked pretty decent. Mimosas etc at breakfast/brunch. Pete's Grill on Q Blvd is absolutely fine, but the most reliable breakfast in Sunnyside/LIC/Woodside/Astoria? I believe it's Cafe Henri.

-Right across the street there's a sushi joint/"Asian Grill" that looks to be opening soon. I swear I looked at the sign like 5 times and still couldn't read the fancy script, in terms of the actual name. But it was a cleaner font that indicated sushi + Asian grill.

pete's grill: the last time i was there about a month ago, they had a new waiter that was completely clueless. he mixed up people's orders, forgot drinks, and brought out my companion's entree earlier than mine, so he was done before i even started eating. another waiter attempted at damage control, apologized profusely and tried to bring out my order as quickly as possible. i appreciated his effort, but the original, amateur waiter completely left a bad taste in my mouth. i noticed that another table was so fed up with the waiter that they left without even touching their food. needless to say, i will not be going back to pete's grill for awhile.

i had a good brunch at time cafe on b'way in astoria. i orignally wanted to go to valverde, but they weren't open at 11am for brunch? that was unfortunate. will try again another time.

        it's a cute place.

they have sofas and tables in the front, a long bar along one side of the room, bookshelves with 2 seater tables along the other side, and then another open area in the back with more tables. the decor is low key, i like it. when i went for brunch, there were a bunch of little kids and moms eating in the front, which was also testament to the low-key vibe of the place.

they have a $12 brunch special: you can choose your entree, and it comes with a choice of bloody mary/mimosa/oj, coffee/tea, entree and mini-muffins. the muffins were ok. the coffee was good. oj was great as well. entrees were ok - the fries were frozen, but they were fried in good oil so it tasted clean. the food was decent - it won't blow your socks off, but a good option in the 'hood.
