New Jerry's Seafood

Mister Big Feb 25, 2008 06:21 AM

Board favorite, Jerry's Seafood, of Lanham, MD, seems to have very quietly opened a second location in Annapolis. Has anyone gone there? Is the second location comparable to the original?

I saw it's sign in the Metropolitan, but they haven't taken down the Metropolitan signs so it is a bit confusing, didn't look open to me when I was by there on Sunday, but pewrhaps it is closed on Sundays?

Jerry's Seafood at the Metropolitan is what it is called. Here's the website:
      https://jerrysseafood.bachcsi.com/mai...
Jerry's wanted to move into the vacant space at 4 Dock Street last year but ran into flack and backed out of the deal. They had wanted rooftop dining, and according to a strick interpretation of the "no outside dining" rules, were turned down. Metropolitan, which is less than a quarter mile away, has rooftop dining - they are just outside the historic district.

Jerry's bought into the ownership - perhaps giving the owners a welcome cash infusion as they expand their Lemongrass/Tsunami mini-empire into Baltimore.

And yes, Jerry's has a places in Lewes too.

Wouldn't this be the third? Didn't they open one last summer in Lewes, Delaware?

The 2nd Street store in Lewes has been open a couple of years now and I think its top notch.Fish and Chips there is like a huge piece of haddock perfectly battered and fried. They have the ginormous Crab Bomb crabcake for big appetites.Full range of seafood entrees. Not cheap, but not overpriced. They don't advertise but they are always packed.

Wonder if this is connected with the Jerry's on Lee Highway between Falls Church and Merrifield - same shopping center as Myanmar and Bubba's BBQ. They had pretty decent crabs, but have been closed for "remodeling" for well over a year.

When I drove past a week or so ago, I noticed a banner over the entrance, but I couldn't read it. Maybe it's re-opening, maybe a new restaurant is opening there, maybe it's turned into yet another fitness club. <g>

Answering my own question, as if anyone was interested. I drove by today and there was a real sign up big enough to read: "El Pollo"

So it's no longer Jerry's and surely not connected with the Jerry's under discussion. Oh well. As if we needed another el chicken place in NoVa.

I work part time in downtown Annapolis and people are always asking for a good restaurant for a crabcake. Is this a good place to recommend? If so, what makes it good?

It may turn out to be, but I have not had a chance to try it yet. If it is like their other locations it will probably be a good place for your to recommend. Funny that the downtown area of annapolis really does not have good crab cakes. I would also point people to Galway Bay on Maryland. They do a good crab cake.

O'Leary's and The Rockfish in Eastport both make very good crab cakes. And The Rockfish uses Maryland blue jumbo lump crab meat. Still, I think you can expect to be able to recommend Jerry's with a great deal of confidence.

Thanks. I think I will replace a certain sushi restaurant with Jerry's.

What makes it so good, its the fact that its lump backfin crab meat, a little mayo and Old Bay Seasoning. Thats it, no filler, no breadcrumbs, no onions or peppers. Just pure lump, backfin crab meat. Yum! They really do the best crab cakes and the crab bomb is it!

I've been eating at Jerry's in Lanham with my family for over 25 years. We were eager for the expansion to Annapolis and last night I was able to take a test drive. Jerry's fans will not be disappointed, finally the white tablecloths the food deserves!!! It didn't "feel" like Jerry's but I am quite sure I can get used to the new space!!! Same great food.... Think upscale seafood with a southern Md flare.... Best blue cheese on the planet... Stewed tomatoes....tangy cole slaw.... Not to mention the famous crab bomb. Looking very forward to enjoying all my favorites on their roofdeck this summer!!
