Any better celebratory restaurants than CUT?

My mom made reservations at CUT for my Dad's birthday. He's quite the epicurean, and a restaurant snob, but I think we can do better. Not really in the mood for Wolfie steak. Any suggestions for a place on the same-ish caliber? Price doesn't really matter. Fun, good atmosphere, good food. Not too difficult. Thank you all.

Urasawa, Spago, Providence would be some of my suggestions but there are so many that its hard to narrow it down.
I celebrated my Bday at Cut and it was a lot of fun and they really took care of us.

These are my faves too... in addition, La Cachette or Melisse for French; Grace and Jiraffe are notable. You don't feel like "Wolfie steak," but what are you looking for in terms of food?
