quintarelli guiseppe dilemma

shivaslives Feb 24, 2008 03:37 AM

I recently read a post on this site regarding the above wine and it sparked my memory of having a few bottles. Mine are however recioto della valpolicello classico one bottle of 1986 and two bottles of 1988. Any enlightenment on these wines would be appreciated.

Looking in my dog-eared copy of the Gambero Rosso 1998 Italian Wines guide shows that the wines of Quintarelli are/were held in high regard and are fairly expensive. In general, the 1988 vintage for Italian wines was rated very highly and the 1986 vintage was a notch below.

The '88 Quintarelli Recioto della Valpolicella was rated 2 glasses, out of a possible 3. I would suggest drinking these wines ASAP. They may already be over the hill.

Quinteralli's Amarones are probably some of the most amazing wines I've ever had in my life. But what Amarone gains with age, it looses some of its "bam" from youth. So I think the wines will still be fantastic now, but I agree on cracking them open.
